WESTSIDE SUPERVISED VISITS

What are Supervised Visits?

Supervised visits are visits between a non-custodial parent (“NCP”), and his/her child(ren) that are court-ordered to be monitored or supervised by a third party.  It is a tool to be used by courts to reduce risk and by families to get through difficult or transitional times.

Sometimes family members or friends are allowed by courts to serve as monitors, but they are rarely neutral.  Other times, a professional monitor or provider, like Ana, who is unbiased, child-focused and specially trained are mandated by a court or requested by the parents.  The knowledge and testimony of a neutral professional monitor in court can be particularly is particularly useful and impactful in court.

Benefits of Supervised Visits
and/or Exchanges

For the child(ren):

— Ability to a maintain a positive relationship with both parents, an important factor for a child’s overall adjustment and well being. — Consistency of schedule as well as the presence of the Professional Monitor help child(ren) anticipate the visits without stress or uncertainties.

—One visit at a time, the Professional Monitor gains unbiased, eye witness (percipient) witness knowledge about the parent-child bond and interactions, which can be evidence in Court to further a child’s best interest.

For the Custodial Parent, the parent living with child(ren).

—Limit the need for communication with the other parent.  Professional Monitors make and confirm arrangements with each parent separately.

—Relaxed enjoyment of parental free time during the other parent’s visits because (s)he trusts that court orders are being followed and a neutral, child-focused and experienced Professional Monitor is present.  If transportation of child(ren) is included in the Services, the Custodial Parent avoids having to deal with traffic or the need for monitored exchanges.

—Ability to use the neutral Professional Monitor’s eyewitness information in Court to continue promoting the best interest and safety of the child(ren) as needed.  (Reports and sworn testimony are subject to fees).

For the Non-Custodial Parent

—Limit the need for communication with the other parent.  Professional Monitors make and confirm arrangements with each parent separately.

—Anticipate and share consistent quality time with the kid(s) regardless of any personal problems or issues (s)he may be going through at the time.  One visit at a time, the parent can build ties, make new memories and family traditions and enhance the child(ren)’s as well as his/her own overall wellbeing.

—Relaxed assuredness that Professional Monitor has no agenda other than facilitating safe, quality visits and ensuring that court orders are strictly followed.

—Ability to use the knowledge and testimony of the neutral Professional Monitor in court to liberalize current orders as facts and circumstances warrant. (Reports and sworn testimony are subject to fees).

What is a professional monitor or provider?

Professional Monitors are specially trained under state law to supervise Court-ordered parent-child visits and serve as unbiased, trained observers, note takers and reporters of the parent-child interactions and bond.

Professional monitors are mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect by law.

For the last 20 years, I have worked as an attorney for children involved in dependency court proceedings.

I have dealt with child abuse and neglect cases daily in court. I assisted in the formulation of court orders for the protection of the child, including custody and visitation orders.  I am well aware of the family dynamics presented by domestic violence, substance usage, sex abuse, neglect and significant mental health issues, and the industry standards utilized by social workers, law enforcement and the courts to ameliorate risk to the child(ren).

Being child focused, I recognize that a child thrives best whenever regular, safe access and healthy connections to both parents are maintained.  Hence, I feel proudly “pro family” and “Safety first” is a mantra my families will hear often.

I am authorized to serve as a Professional Child Supervision Monitor under the rules of the state of California.

I am fluent in English, Spanish and French.

I am TrustLine Registry Background Approved #7916255.

I am CPR/First Aid Certified, first aid kit is available in my car at all times.
